Project: Entropic Decay

Entropic Decay is a gaming clan that was started in June of 2005 on a game site message board for a game that wasn't yet released, on a system that wasn't yet released. They were growing quickly, and their only home was a forum thread. I volunteered to provide them with a functional website with their own message board. Volunteering turned into an actual job within the clan, and then into being one of the leaders.

I released the first layout on July 22 of 2005, adapting a style I used in the most recent layout of Eranix Online. It was a very simple, easy, quick layout that did the job. It left time to work on the message boards, which, over the past few years, has grossed over 70,000 posts. It included a news script so the leaders can post news updates, and was left ready for new pages to be easily added. A demo of this layout is accessible here.

Time passed, the clan was growing quickly, and needed an expanded, original, and dedicated layout to support the weight. I designed a new layout, using features I had never used before. Unfortunatly the layout was lost in a server crash, so I'll have to explain the layout with words. I went for a brighter look, and tried to add more depth and style to the layout. The banner randomly cycled between the 3 I created, and below it was a horizontal menu bar. The menu were black buttons with text to match the colors of the Perfect Dark Zero menus, and changed color when the mouse hovered over it. This was my first whack at the mouseover feature, and it worked very well.

Following the tragic server crash, we were left with just a forum and a contruction page until I finally teamed up with fellow member Bartholomew, my colleague from Australia, to make a flexable, interative, and compact layout. That was the idea, anyway, and I feel we succeeded. Bart designed the base of the layout, and I designed the graphics and the code within it. This layout, which is still used, had a banner along the entire top of the website, with some important links, and a short box of content beneath it. We kept it as short as possible so as to avoid having to scroll down.

To cover the interactive part of this layout, Bart designed a flash movie that repeated an animation of the clan name. I wanted something to always be moving, to keep the website alive, and thanks to Bart's flash, that was made possible. As for the compact part, all the needed content is in one iFrame, which is small but simple. I also later added a scroll box on the menu bar to give more frequent updates. Much thanks to Bart for his help, I couldn't have done it without him.

The clan is still rolling, in case you were wondering. We've hit our 2nd birthday and we're now currently playing Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4. Yanno, just in case you were wondering.
